Power of Fun

The power of fun is that it's energizing. Have you noticed how energetic children are? They are masterful at fun. Their work is to learn through fun and do what they enjoy. My 5-year old daughter gets sheer delight from doing craft projects. She gets very focused when she is "working" and spends hours creating for the simple joy of doing it. The acknowledgement and praise she receives are truly secondary rewards. We, too, can have the vitality of fun in our work on a daily basis.

Work is most fun when my imagination is stimulated and creativity is unleashed, I relax and let go of needing to do it right. Ideas flow and we laugh more freely since we don't take ourselves so seriously. Time flies by and everything seems easier when it's fun. We also gain increased confidence and personal satisfaction in the task at hand. A dear friend and associate recently commented that "having fun this year has added so much to my life. It has been like a huge glass of water for my thirsty soul." Fun can also be soul food.

Since I work best when my work is fun I have a "fun test." I use this test to determine if I am doing the most appropriate task at any given time. I ask myself, "am I having fun?" or "is my creativity flowing." When fun goes out of an activity and I don't feel energized I know that I need to do something different. I then come back to it when my creativity is recharged and I can refocus. For those activities that just aren't enjoyable yet must get done, I do something fun and let that energy carry me through.

This little test enables me to achieve greater results by using my creativity and energy more powerfully. Take time today to notice if and when you are having fun. Try the "fun test" to see if your personal enjoyment and results increase. You can create powerful fun in any task or situation. You and those around you will be glad you did.
